Preheat,preheat,preheat,every time.
Make a holder on the left side for your push button propane torch that your left hand finds automatically. (If your right handed)
Cut 1/4" off the MIG gun gas nozzle.
For simple jobs like this run Lincoln L-56 wire, a little lower tensile but very smooth puddle.
