2. Disconnect terminal 50 from starter solenoid and check for voltage on wire with ignition switch in start position. No voltage move to next connector in circuit and check again.

tnx for that - yes I have continuity from switch to solenoid term 50 - problem is somewhere in-between the switch and the starter. I am in the process of locating and disconnecting the a/c relay and the vent switch -- if I can find it - thinking they are shorting the circuit when battery is back on.
