Yeah, you probably weren't jetted for nitro even though the main and idle jets were screws. We used to use toluene but it tended to run hot. I can't imagine how hot nitro was.
There used to be a mixing oil that contained 'oil of mirbane' which is nitrobenzene. When racing and fuel being tested, it failed. Fast though.
The model airplane guys had some exotic fuels.
