Infantile blindness due to oversaturation of oxygen in preemie babies was common until Masimo came along with their sensor technology. That along with "false alarms" due to patient movement, they were able to drop incidents to almost zero.
They have since developed tech to measure carbon monoxide poisoning and other blood gases and are the tops in their field. They've fought a few medical companies in court regarding this technology. I met Joe Kiani the CEO when I was working on "ER" and he wanted to do some product placement. Consequently I was invited to buy into their IPO as "Friends and Family".
It will be interesting to see what develops, I'm thinking a long term licensing agreement for some big bucks will eventually happen sooner rather than later.
