I'm in IT. I didn't take enough time off during the year, so "use it or lose it", I'm off until the 2nd. There's a lot of others that do the same thing. Mandatory change freeze from the Friday before Christmas until the day after New Year's Day.

I saw in our change management queue that someone wants to roll out something big this Friday afternoon, right before our change freeze starts. It had better get denied. If things don't go well, I don't want to be called Saturday afternoon to fix someone else's screw up.

Last year it was miserably cold the weekend before Christmas. Thursday night or Friday morning, someone in Facilities turned of the coolant pump for one of our data centers. "It's so cold, why would they need cooling?" By the time it was caught, the coolant had started to freeze in the pipe and the system couldn't just be restarted. Almost melted down a data center, it got to 120F in there.
