checked it again with the moisture meter this morning and it's down several points, so seems to be drying out. I think chimney flashing is the likely culprit and this last downpour with high winds was enough for a bit of rain to get in a small gap. I'm going to have someone check it out...this chimney is very high, equivalent to 3 stories from ground in back of house, and on a steep cedar roof - my roof climbing days are over!
