In my experience, new blades last a long time against
a new windshield.
But the blades go to hell in a hurry as time passes and
the glass gets more rock-pitted.

When the glass is in bad shape,
the best wipers in the world will start to streak before long
as the small sharp pits in the glass tear at the
leading edge of the rubber.
Sometimes their life can be extended simply by
wet-sanding them with fine paper to remove the small divots
left by the pits.
But they'll be back soon if the glass is not replaced.
If there is a product that can fill in the tiny pits in the glass
without obscuring visibility, I haven't found it.
Another tip: if the left and right blades are the same size,
sometimes you can get more life from them by swapping them.
Kind of like rotating the tires.

Besides all that, I've had good luck with bosch blades.
