Swivel feet adjusters...

I've seen two different designs for swivel feet adjusters. One design has the socket integral with the adjuster screw, and a swiveling ball with machined surface contacts the valve stem.

The other design has the ball integral with the adjuster screw, and a socket with machined surface contacts the valve stem. Tom Wilson's VW engine book shows this latter type, and I assume this to be the VW-approved design. He specifies using the VW-approved type only, because it is not unduly hard and thus will not damage the valve stems like some other hardened swivel adjusters might.

Questions:

1) Can anyone confirm which swivel feet adjusters are the best ones to use?

2) If the "Tom Wilson" specified design is the one, do I still get these from the dealer, or are they available aftermarket?

I'm planning to use 8mm rockers with solid spacers, as has been suggested.

Thanks in advance!
