Totally agree.
(Reinforce the beam hole with external plywood first. 1' overlap minimum on the sides with plenty of deep penetrating rated screws. Under-slung or even doubled up would be even stronger. Bolt-though the ends. Then hack away through the beam.

The small junk room in my house at the basement corner only receives passive heat.
-Tools in that room seem to rust quickly.
-It receives no fresh circulation air from the furnace to warm it and drive out moisture.
-There are support beams in the way and I've been trying to figure out how to supply it .
