Actually, I prefer for the worker to be paid less AND for society to not feel obligated to tip generously for poor service (the restaurant server getting a participation award).
Once upon a time, people felt morally obligated to tip well when the server worked hard and the lazy servers didn't last long because they got what they deserved. Now, the worst servers are still working because they are going to make good money if they don't do squat for the customer. How is that progress?
My sales commissions are not based on if I showed up but rather if I used my skills and actually sold something.
