At some point the oil wasn't changed and the PVC plugged up, just guessing.
Anything further down the EVAP system would be a rubber hose blown off instead of a popped case.
Lack of compression ring sealing means the bypass pressure had nowhere to go.
It's a big self-propelled air pump.
