I guess that's a valid point but apples to apples of course you burn more calories on a pedal bike, for sure.
Good friend of mine was ranting about e-bikes. I shared with him I saw an elderly lady riding one and what crossed my mind when I saw her was "Good for her...this probably motivates her to get out and get some fresh air and a little exercise more."
He thought about it and agreed with my point.
For me it's not "either-or".....it's just about having options. Those (damn) windy days suck on a pedal bike!
