I think while that is mostly true, the cars are not any wider than many of those in the past. Length is one thing, but getting around the other car when it's as wide as they are is just as much of an issue.

Same thing in karts. My old Margay might be 42" at the rear. Today's sprint karts look to be 4'! In fact I saw a quick post that said the kart max is 55". I know I would have trouble today driving a kart simply due to the width.
