Reading everything I could, I found where someone said the steel gear that drives the ims shaft, had worked loose on his crankshaft... I thought to have that checked. My machinist thought I was bonkers.
I checked my ims gear lash and it was surely out of spec. Someone suggested it might have been the cause of the noise.. everything was replaced... everything was in spec.
Completed the build of the motor.... (did it purely to try and fix the noise).... and the bloody thing did it still.

I had the same thing when I rebuilt my SC motor from the crank up. Figured I had missed something. Tore it down again. This time I had the rod ends rebushed. They were in spec but I was looking for the noise.
Put it back together - and it did the same thing. I gave up.
That rebuild was about 15 yrs ago. The motor is fine, no oil drops anywhere, runs like a swiss watch - and the noise has gone. I guess it is in someone elses motor now.
