This was my issue.

Found the original "pivot" in the bottom of my door. Followed the process from a thread using a couple nuts and just long enough bolt. To my surprise fixed the issue. Car is an 86' with 200,000 miles on it and figured it had to be the motor or regulator. There should be quite a bit of tension on that spring all things considered.

Couple old, but great, threads on the fix with some searching...

Keep us updated what you find.
