"I would check the circuit at the cardedge connector, if the cluster is OK then it has to be the connector or the circuit."
Backprobe the connection for the temp gauge at the cardedge connector and see if there is any continuity, try grounding it, ground through a resistor, etc.
Also ohm the circuit back towards the sensor with the connector disconnected.
