True story: the house we live in was blown away by a tornado in 1995 . The wife was home with their two young children when she heard the " freight train " noise . She grabbed the two kids and ran downstairs to the basement . She had the kids wrap their arms and legs around the vertical sewer pipe . The mother then wrapped her arms and legs around the children . Forty five seconds later the entire house was gone !!!
The mom opened her eyes and looked up and saw only sky . The entire house was gone , all that was left was the foundation . Thankfully mom and kids were physically fine . To this day in the woods on our property there are remnants of that day . A damaged one piece fiberglass shower unit . Various pieces of vinyl siding . Pieces of 2x lumber stuck in trees . It is a reminder of the power of mother nature and she is to be respected .
The house was rebuilt onto the existing basement footprint in 1996 . Fun fact our realtor didn't tell us about the incident until after closing , he was afraid we would back out on the deal . The way my wife and I look at it is the once in a lifetime event has happened and we are good to go
