Since I made similar experiences not only on ignition timing, but as well on the mixture I can confirm your experience and I also learned a lot on how sensitive these topics are and that most people don't give a **** on them which may lead into more serious issues sooner or later...

I recommend to check if your ignition timing fits to the factory specs. A too sharp ignition timing is also bad and could cause serious damages as well (pre-detonation). Have a look on these:

Also have a check with a certified gas tester on how the mixture is in factory spec.
