I missed that. Most likely the bearing went and that would throw the fan out of balance which created the contact point at the bottom and most likely the resulting damage to the fan.

I tell everyone they need to inspect the fans for paint and bearing issues constantly. New fan and bearing should get you up and running.

Can you please post pictures of the old fan when removed?
