Yes and no. You can look at it like this... the 944 motor is half the 928 motor, they (amongst a few other things) chopped off the right side of the motor, stuck in two balance shafts, and of course they had a few different variations of the 928 and 944/968 model motors.

I look at 944s as having a gimped motor on one of those super speedy electric wheelchairs. It's not all there, but it scoots. I love the idea on a v8 in a 944.

BUT! When you get say... a 928 and stick in another v8... put in something with more cylinders!! v10! Okay thats crazy. Oh well, just put something in there that's worthy.
