I went to Oktoberfest twice, 1979 and 1980 when they had the bombing (I was there 3 days after). We took the train from Bamberg and slept at the Bahnhof (train station). Left our sleeping bags there, went to the fest and staggered back to sleep it off.
Augustiner tent was a favorite, lots of people, lots of fun but don't think I'd do it again. I'll do Hofbrau Haus Vegas for a limited experience. Or go back to my Wife's town of Bamberg for the Sandkerwa which is a festival they have late August.
