I must say... I once owned a 68 912 (and earlier a 69 LWB). The LWB is alright, but...
A well tuned slightly breathed on SWB 912 is a *special* car..
The lack of fender flares, the light weight, the perfect balance with a lighter butt. In many regards, I believe I effed up spectacularly 5y ago when I sold it and kept the 72 911 instead.
yeah sure the 911 is the famous one, the flat 6 sounds great, but I sincerely believe a SWB 912 is the superior driving experience (admittedly with a big bore or something).. So i can see the appeal of the above (not the crazy pricing though), FWIW.
No matter now, the prices have all gone crazy so we're largely stuck with what we got, right ?
