Wix was purchased by Mann & Hummel which many folks don't know . Charles Navarro from LN Engineering says the Wix filters made in the US and Mexico are still good quality . But the ones made in China are to be avoided .
I don't believe Napa Gold filters are made by Wix anymore . I thought I heard they are made off shore via Baldwin . Or maybe someone else . Who knows ?
For my GMC diesel dually and Chevy S10 Vortec V8 I use AC Delco . For the Porsche's I am still using Wix . For my wife's Volvo usually Mann . With mergers/buyouts/other it can be a crapshoot on quality as companies squeeze every penny of profit . And what was good quality last week may not be next week .
I think consistent oil analysis is the only way to know what is really going on .
