Yea, by the mid 80s when my El Camino was made the SS badge was just a badge. It could be a 6 cylinder with only a speedometer and fuel gauge in the instrument cluster, and lots of idiot lights instead.
I de-badged my El Camino to make it a ton easier to wax. Anyone can recognize an El Camino. It says it is a SS on the VIN and the build sheet.
