The Studebaker power plant burned 800 tons of coal a day, used one million gallons of water a day, for 365 days a year, to provide the electricity, steam and compressed air, to supply the assembly line. The coal and water amounts are incomprehensible! Sample street goes up and down on the left of the photo. The third photo is from 1920, when Studebaker began making their light six cars. After they came off the assembly line, they were parked here for transport. The light six was the Studebaker's first car.
During the filming of "The Great Escape" in 1963, tensions simmered between James Garner and Charles Bronson that extended far beyond the set.
