I suspect the LM is the Makers mark. All my casting had to have a Makers mark and our cage code for DoD work. Traceability to the manufacturer was important.
The fans can last longer but 28 years on any part is along time.
There should be a total of 6 shims. There are also different belt lengths you can try they reference several lengths in the PET.
