Hah, nice. I didn't notice that you were in Texas. I drove my old '88 year round in Houston. As long as the AC is working perfectly, it'll keep you cool. There are also upgrades that can be done to get it to REALLY crank the cold.
I wish I still had my old '88 targa, but getting rid of it was the right move for me at the time. Now I'm driving an '08 Boxster S. My commute (~11 days/mo) is ~84 miles each way on I10 into and out of downtown Houston. The boxster handles it well, although I'm pretty sure I'd be happy to do the same commute in my old '88 if I still had it.
