Photograph taken from the inside of the Florida Havansa Railroad Car Ferry as it was departing from Key West, Florida to Havana. Image ca. 1956. The automobile the woman is standing next to is a 1954 Buick Special. There is a motor home camper behind it.
Thinking the woman owned the Buick and the camper and the man was employed by the ferry company but some people had private mechanics so he could be her mechanic, too.
The ferry made a daily round-trip on weekdays to Havana-Key West-Miami. You could take your own automobile or buy an automobile in Florida and take it to Cuba among other different freight services offered. The ferry was discontinued in 1961 after the United States and Cuba broke diplomatic relations
