Just did this with the wife. It was absolutely awesome. North Rim is not crowded. Take a big ice chest with plenty of drinks and snacks. There is a fantastic, short hike along the rim, right below the lodge. Spectacular view from the dining room. Road with a bunch of turnouts along the rim, a few short hikes off of this road, the end of which is Cape Royal, which is the best view on the planet, IMHO
