You had to make a decision quickly (under duress), and I think there's no question you made the right one. Kudos. Fortunately, he didn't see it coming in time to deflect your punch because it could've gotten sideways in a hurry... regardless, you had to give it your best shot. Have you or any woman you know ever been in the same or similar situation and had to handle it with force?
After his text "excuse" did you reply or just block him? He sounds sociopathic and like he's not playing with a full deck... I wonder if he's tried to use that excuse before.

Yeah, be on the lookout. Depending on your "spidey sense," at some point you may decide to let him know you've told a friend and/or local police that if anything happens to you, he will be suspect #1.
