Short answer: they weren't.
Turbo engines move a huge amount of oil so, the cylinder are mostly used to cool the heads.
78- 89 3.3 turbo cylinders were almost fin-less anyway, so this one ran/runs with elevated head temps. Hard to see in the short term.
