Two main possibilities that I know of.

1 The stuff was returns to someplace like Home Depot, Amazon, etc.... THese days, apparently, those items are being resold rather than returned. Folks buy them in bulk (by the pallet, I think), and then they check them out and then resell them. That's probably the most likely in my head.

2 You got a counterfeit. It seems like a lot/most are pretty obvious upon examination.

Check out the Dewalt website or the big box stores, and compare photos to what you've got. Look the thing over carefully. I suspect you'll be able to spot whether it's "close, but not quite."

My guess is that you got one of the returns.
