78 Targa with 84 Catrrera 3,2 conversion. What't it worth ?
Hi all. Well I haven't been on the forum for years, and my life has changed radically, particularly since my wife's health has had several ups and downs. I don't drive a lot anymore, and I have a fellow enthusiast asking about my 78 Targa, and I don't have any idea what it is worth. It is a Frankencar, a 78 Targa with a 3.2 conversion. No AC, bad paint, but very nice mechanicals. The engine has about 130,000 miles with a top end rebuild about 10,000 miles ago and 964 cams. no smoke, very strong in the upper rev range. Straight body, needs a complete repaint. Currently running a 72 915 box which was rebuilt less than 5,000 miles ago and is supposed to have limited slip. It also comes with the original 78 box which I drove for a number of years and is in very good operating order. Straight body and chassis. Comes with the 2 transmissions, a set of Boxster seats, a set of perfect 76 911S seats, and a set of 78 sport seats that need to be recovered. Has a roll bar installed, and a set of 6&7 x 16" Fuchs, plus a set of 7&8 x 15" Fuchs, and a 72 and 78 speedometer. Has a fiberglass Targa top, and a folding top that needs a rebuild.
Mechanically reliable and sorted, a very good runner that drives out well. I very much undersold my last Porsche, and I don't want to do so again. Any ideas as to the value ? The fellow who wants it is a real enthusiast, and will do right by the car, but I don't need to sell it. Your opinions would be appreciated.
