My Mom went back in 2012 for her WWII service and said it was the most gratifying yet humbling experience of her life.
At her funeral a couple weeks ago, an old friend of mine who attended shared with me that he has accompanied several veterans (they're called "Guardians") through the years and even stayed in contact with them - one being a WW II pilot, who eventually passed away.
