Very happy for you that you got it sorted (and by improving fuse contact maybe headed off other headaches)!
Those old style bullet fuses are quaint but can be a PITA as you have discovered. If you have some electrical contact cleaner and a few q-tips, it might be a good idea to de-oxidize the spring contact arms at the top and bottom of the fuses, many folks swear by a product called “DeoxIT D5” for this.
Another option if you aren’t allergic to some restomod spend is to replace the fuse panels with a modern version that uses ATO fuses. Our host sells a couple of versions of these:
