I had a Boxster I really enjoyed as well as a couple 914s back in my youth and I really liked the way Porsche built things, so I wanted to try their flagship. I couldn't afford a cabriolet but had to have some sort of droptop, so I found a 1984 targa.... A great car.
I then discovered that Porsche had a harder time selling targas "back in the day" so they made a factory conversion kit to allow removal of the targa bar and the addition of a full top. This was before the air-cooled models went nuts pricewise, so I broke out the welder and my targa became a cab. It's one of the very few cars I regret selling. Not because of the dramatic value increase since then but it was such a well-balanced and well-engineered car that I didn't truly appreciate back then.
