I was a Project Manager for an environmental company that had multiple DOD/EPA/DERM contracts at the time. We spent several years cleaning up Homestead AFB and the surrounding Dade County assets.
Fun fact.....they had a weather station at the top of the South Dade Landfill (maybe 200 ft above sea level). It was designed/rated to withstand 250 MPH winds! It failed when Andrews eye-wall passed through.
