I've only ever seen 2 kinds of golf balls. One, which was, I think a cheap driving range golf ball, was solid all of the way through. And all of the rest were 3 different "layers" of 3 different substances. The outside was a tough outer layer a couple/few millimeters thick. Then the "mantel" was what seemed like 1000' of very thin rubber-band-like material wrapped around and around and around. And the core was a hollow rubber ball, that once it has been freed, is a great toy for a kid (like the rubber balls that you used to get out of candy machines at the super market).

Apparently, things have changed!
What I'm used to is #2 wrapped around #3.
Someone's got food poisoning.
