I can appreciate and enjoy shooting all firearms - except lever actions, just never got into them to any degree or really care to. Which is weird, since I do like the underlever style rolling block like your Ruger #1/#3...
When it comes to nice wood and blue steel vs "black is beautiful" mindset, I am more than happy to split the difference. Since I can't afford a real G-series Belgian import FN-FAL I had one mocked up, using a German G1 kit built on a DCI receiver and using walnut hand guards from Ironwood Designs. Had to sell the rifle a while back but still have the walnut hand guards and walnut original G1 pistol grip.
