ha these stories are a riot - I think I esp like best the slant cab shame face right there out in the open in front of everyone... hahahahaaa
so
Oddly enough I've not had any REAL pucker moments in my 18yrs with mine, until TWICE IN THE PAST TWO YEARS - whoopz
1st was running in pretty steady rain on balding (but not terrible) rear 295/18 Super Sports cruising the highway at increasingly decreasing speeds as I kept it jussst below the what felt like hydroplane speed, about 77ish
Approach the crest of a rise, see a small 'river' flowing down my lane - hover on the controls and pucker my way through it... I feel the rear start to twitch... I adjust steering & throttle SLIGHTLY - feel it some more - keep adjusting... and it finally GOES... swings one way - catch it. Swings the other - catch it. Snaps 180* now I'm sliding toward right breakdown from fast lane - thankfully empty morning road (on way to an event @ Palmer Motorsports no less lol).
The breakdown lane has a MASSIVE LONNNNG ledge along it. I slide into breakdown lane and thankfully STOPPED short of said ledge. WHOOPS. The rest of the ride @ 68 or less was quite unfun. New tires that Monday!
2nd was on Targa Carolina after jusssssst getting it back from motor rebuild, hadn't driven car in almost 3yrs and re-acclimating mahself to it after driving CT to NC. We broke into run groups and were bombing along on a 1st-day fun run, I'm getting warmed up and loose, feeling good, car is happy.
The caravan enters a tiiiiight haripin that keeps on turning. I'm good I'm good I'm good... until... the radius decreases and it tightens with a slight kink. I add in too much steering trying to stay with it and it IMMEDIATELY steps out a hair then SNAPS around the other way 180*... but on axis... now I'm just going backward. Thankfully it was a pretty low speed turn so I'm rolling slightly backwards - but in my panic I'd neglegted to BOTH FEET IN WHEN IN A SPIN and STALLED... in super slo mo I now see THE REMAINDER OF THE CARAVAN coming RIGHT AT ME. FARQUE!! Thankfully somehow swerved and braked right around me - everyone scattering. CHAOS. I thought for certain I was gonna kiss front bumpers with another red Gbody 911. PHEW.
Less of a hole puckerer - yearrrrrs ago on my 16" Fuchs on Kumho Ecsta's I too was BOMBING along highway when I spied a pig entering onramp that I was about to overtake - so I BURIED the brakes.... long lockup skid of the RF 225 (surprised some you had LF, weight of driver and no passenger and all). Thankfully I scrubbed enough speed to not pass him - but boy oh boy did my SMOKE CLOUD pass both of us - hahahahaa.
Had another RF 255/18 Super Sport lockup @ Club Motorsports DE this summer with instructor - late day, neglected to account for EMPTY FUEL TANK lack of weight. Damn did that STINK lol. Flatspotted the tire, new one comes soon. Be smarter next time! I LOVE having 255's up front, nearly (nearly!) impossible to lockup, I can brake HARD AND DEEP with near impunity.
You really can't be fully comfortable in or master one of these until / unless you've experienced a spin in one - that much is CERTAIN! Now I know lol.
