1995+ should be first year of OBD2 in America.

I first suspect a clogged Cat.
It's not breathing when the the tailpipe gets blocked.
Use an infrared thermometer before and after the Cat pipe connectors.
It should be 50-100deg after.
Meaning stuff is burning up as it should.
Strong pulse at the exit is mandatory....
Replace the old muffler if needed.
I had an '84 Tercel which barely ran until a sudden 'pop'.
Boom.
Instant TRD powwwa again.
The tailpipe was cracked before the muffler.
The >5yo Midas muffler was completely clogged inside and had rusted out.

I purchased it in November 1994, so she is still in the ODB-1 generation.
I also thought the CAT could be plugged. That was until we had that fire this summer on the south side of the airport and threatening our place. Under mandatory evac orders, I jumped under the truck and cut the dang thing out with a ripo saw. Unbolted the other end, thinking I could load it up and drive it out. No such luck, sounded like a crappy running clapped out stock car.
Cat looked clean, actually and daylight can be seen through the media.[emoji2371][emoji2371][emoji2371][emoji2371][emoji2371]
I’m afraid that when I find the issue, it will be like “that was so simple, why didn’t you start there[emoji2357]
