Manufacturers stop updating the built-in apps on older or discontinued models of "smart" TVs or Blu-Ray players pretty quick - to the point where they're pretty much unusable after a few years, which, for a decent quality device, will be a fraction of its service life.

Also, those built-in apps are rarely as good as the user experience on a decent streaming stick of any type - particularly one that's not as dumb as a rock, like the TVs tend to be.

Available HDMI input ports is far more useful, imo, than any bundled apps on the TV itself.
