I went to College in Iowa Byron, we had a '78 VW Bus with no heater boxes as they had rusted out and we replaced the exhaust with some generic FLAPS mufflers as we had zero $. While it was a tank in the snow, driving it up to MN you had to lean out the window and scrape the front windshield while driving.
It had the heater than ran off gas in the fuel tank but it blew fuses constantly and scared the crap out of me.
Oh to be young and drive a VW with no heat in the midwest.
