Originally they all had 2 pole switches, but they began to be replaced by the single pole version a long time ago. AFAIK the 2 pole switches are not self grounding, thus requiring the ground pole. The one wire is brown with a yellow stripe and should be connected to the single pole switch. The single pole switch has the benefit of a reset button. I was replacing failing master cylinders after just 7 years of use back in the day, so switches were quickly replaced as they usually came with the M/C.
