I would say if there's any sentimental value to the luger, then stick with that. But it doesn't sound like there is.
If there's no personal attachment to the Luger, and you'd rather have a cool 1911, and you have a way to get one, then go for it. Presumably, your buddy is going to trade a collectible 1911 for your collectible luger. So you're still going to have a collectible spoon.
Go for it. But before you do, post pics of the luger!
