Go ahead and spot for a custom bike. You'll never go back to an off the shelf frame. I always thought I was pretty normal until I rode for a team which was sponsered by a frame builder (Gilmour) out of Tucson. I had a 1st generation Merlin at the time but he wanted me to ride his frame, so I sold the Merlin and he gave me a mountain and road frame. Since then I always have and will go custom(at least on my road bike).
Nice to know there some other bike geeks on this board as well.
