1. see if you can find the well drillers' report to know how it was built.

2. when you pull the pump get a downhole camera inspection done. old steel well can be damaged/rusted out by now.

could be a simple as a wad of dirt, but does emphasize the need for better wellhead protection. small critter in the hole and you'll be dealing with bacteria for a while

if you're concerned about drought impacts it'll be good to add a sounding tube to be able to take water level measurements. rarely done for domestic wells but helpful info to track.
