Yup it’s a thing. I would not eat there either.
My grandma was terrible for this. I helped my aunt clean out her fridge in 1995. Cheese slices turn black and develop a plastic like consistency over 10-15 years. She had stuff in there with price tags (remember those) from Woodwards. Woodwords sold their grocery business to Safeway in the early 80s… there were homemade pickled beets in the basement that said 1968 on the jar.
I lived with her for 2 years when I was in college. I never ate her cooking.
In the last year my dad was at home, he would go buy a bunch of fruit juice and coffee creamers that needed to be refrigerated and then leave them out on the counter, he had a fit when I dumped them all out as if I was the one that wasted it… seems to me it was wasted within 24 hours of him dragging it home.
