Assuming you've got a dremel tool - use a wire rope crimp such as below. I'm assuming you've got another cable you'll attach to extend the 6 inches or so you need. Cut a slot into each side of the crimp that would allow the cable to slide through and the cylindrical end would sit inside. Then epoxy or JB weld the parts inside.
