I agree there are unanswered questions about the Las Vegas bomber. However, I also think that when it comes to explaining what went on inside the head of a suffering, disturbed, ill person, sometimes there won’t be answers no matter how much you want there to be.

Ask the grieving survivors of countless suicides every year. Many of them will tell you “it doesn’t make any sense”. Almost none of them will try to pretend there was some deep conspiracy and deep state coverup that explains why their beautiful, popular, successful daughter was found hung in her bedroom, or their happy, successful, popular son was floating bloated and unrecognizable in the river downstream from the bridge - two things that will never make sense to some friends of mine.

I’d also say that none of you, of us, can really say what “makes sense” to and with a mentally ill person. We know what would makes sense if it were us, but we’re not mentally ill.

I have some limited experience with mental illness in my family. After a lot of interaction, you can sometimes guess how they will respond to some situations, you’re often wrong, and confidently saying this will/won’t happen (even if phrased as “make sense”) is foolish.
